Dyslexia (reading disability), Central Auditory Processing Dysfunction (CAPD) and other forms of Learning Disabilities (LD) affect 20 to 30% of the school population (these percentiles include communication and attentional difficulties). Listening training is most well known for the positive impact it has on these issues. More than 50% of 4000 clients who have received a listening training program at The Listening Centre have a history of learning difficulties. The effects of listening training on children with dyslexia and other forms of auditory and language-related learning difficulties is well documented in various publications by Alfred Tomatis, Paul Madaule and others.

Less well known is the fact that listening training may be helpful with some forms of Non-Verbal Learning Disabilities and social adjustment problems that some call “Social Dyslexia”. In these cases, the child may be able to learn academically but struggles with interpersonal relationships and some of the basic and common aspects of everyday living.
